Alert messages and Protocols

An alert message is a message transmitted by local or national authorities to the general population (civilian or professional) to warn them of an impending emergency.
Alert messages may be used in the following situations:

• meteorological emergencies,
• industrial disaster,
• terrorist threat,
• abduction,
• etc.

Alert messages can be distributed through different means:

• radio and television stations,
• traffic variable-message sign,
• digital signage,
• GPS traffic systems,
• webpage,
• e-mail,
• sms texts,
• etc.
